The first time I went to Teahupo’o I was sworn to secrecy. I paddled out with Tahitian local and surfer, Poto David in his 8 foot outrigger canoe.
I’ll never forget gliding over the reef in endless tropical turquoise waters melding with cloudy cobalt skies.
When we finally anchored, a freight-train wave of unbelievable size and intensity broke before us, creating in me an unforgettable awe at its pure magnificence.
Fast forward 10 years, I open a surf magazine and see a surfing contest being held at Teahupo’o, this year the second surfing Olympics…
We’re now living in a dramatic time of change. Everything seems to be fluctuating and moving…
… and while Teahupo’o is now on the world’s stage with the Surfing Olympics this year, what’s constant is it’s awe-inspiring beauty and power.
When I revisited the photos of my earlier trips, I found a gem that I completely overlooked at the time — an empty wave as spectacular as you can imagine.
In honor of the Olympics, in honor of Teahupo’o, I am proud to introduce my latest release, Blue Infinity.
I hope this wave’s unrelenting power and beauty remind you of the grounding elements of nature and the importance of experiencing it every day.
