All artists have their own journey.
At some point, we either choose to move past resistance and self sabotage and embrace our calling or we simply stop pursuing our passion altogether.
Whether it’s out of obligation to being a”productive” member of society or just one more stumbling block that took its toll, being an artist is not easy…
…in fact, the only other profession where it is more difficult to succeed is to become a rock star.
This is true.
I was a shy introverted teenager. Photography for me was a way to communicate.
Saxon also was a shy child.
We share this similar trait and difficulty in just being like everyone else, where it seems like they share something that’s just outside of reach…
There is something healing about the ocean. I have seen it in Saxon since he was a young child.
We always come out of the ocean feeling better than before we went in.
Both Saxon and I believe deeply in our mission:
To create inspirational art that instills a sense of wonder in Creation.
We hope our work brings you joy and serenity that we have found being in and around the Ocean.
Last week, I saw this article that came out in Surfer Magazine about the top 10 biggest wave photos of all time. My shot of Cortes Bank was included.
To give context of when this photo was taken, back when we were still shooting film, it was much easier to miss a moment due to the limitation of only having 36 frames that you could use up entirely in 8 seconds, at which point you’d have to stop everything and change film. It was amazing that I ever caught anything that was historical, like this moment! So I was happy to remember the magic of that day and see this shot as one of the greats.
Last week, Saxon posted a video about an encounter with Orcas while with a group of friends on Jet Skis and foils traveling from Mission Bay to Oceanside. Below is that video, which has over 20 million views on his Instagram account. You can see that video below.

I love the way Saxon sees the world. You can see it in his art, in his awe of the beauty that surrounds him.
I guess that’s something we share…a true love for the ocean.
